On December 22, 1999, the Boston Celtics played their last game on the venerable parquet floor that has been the home court for the Green since 1946.

Celtics President and founder, Walter Brown, had the floor built in parquet form because of the post World War II lumber shortage (only short pieces of wood were available).  The floor started life in the old Boston Arena, was moved to the Boston Garden in 1952, and finally brought to the FleetCenter in 1995.

The Celtics will play their first game on the new floor January 3, 2000.  Like the old floor, the new one will consist of 264 panels made up of Red Oak boards 1-4 inches wide.  Parts of the old floor will eventually find their way into the new floor.
